I’m running a three day portrait painting workshop at the Victorian Artists Society from April 6th to 8th, 10am to 3.30.
We will have a live model for all three days.
Day 1 we will focus on drawing skills and will discuss sight sizing, cognitive biases and ways to ensure accuracy.
On days 2 & 3 we will develop and complete the oil portrait. We will further explore issues of painting from life, the use of varying brush strokes / brush sizes / detail to create an interesting surface which reflects the various textures of human skin and hair, and the capturing of the ‘essence’ of the person. We will cover paint colour mixing and I will show you how to mix my favourite flesh colours.
