Delighted to be awarded second prize in the Nada Hunter Portrait Award at the Victorian Artist’s Society today for my painting of sisters Ange and Trish who worked in the RMH Emergency Dept during the COVID lockdowns.
I loved judge Andrea Huelin’s comments; she really understood the work and my intentions ❤️
“What a masterpiece! The artist has observed and communicated the stoicism of these health workers, while also conveying a vulnerability and sense of human struggle. The folds in the gowns are echoed in the women’s’ wrinkles which makes for an effective conceptual element to this painting. This painting shows great technical skill as well as conveying a powerful emotional punch”
Thank you @andreahuelinartist and @victorianartistssociety ❤️ and of course @koroitkelly and her sister Trish, my gorgeous models.
Massive congratulations to the overall winner @jenn_huang_art and third place winner Julia Wang and the artists who won highly commended including the amazing Liz Turner @eturner54
